Hadith #95

حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ يَزِيدَ الْحَضْرَمِيَّ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ
بْنِ مَعْدَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي بِلَالٍ عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَخْتَصِمُ الشُّهَدَاءُ وَالْمُتَوَفَّوْنَ عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ إِلَى رَبِّنَا عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي الَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْ الطَّاعُونِ فَيَقُولُ الشُّهَدَاءُ إِخْوَانُنَا قُتِلُوا كَمَا قُتِلْنَا وَيَقُولُ الْمُتَوَفَّوْنَ عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ إِخْوَانُنَا مَاتُوا عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ كَمَا مِتْنَا عَلَى فُرُشِنَا فَيَقُولُ الرَّبُّ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ انْظُرُوا إِلَى جِرَاحِهِمْ فَإِنْ أَشْبَهَتْ جِرَاحُهُمْ جِرَاحَ الْمَقْتُولِينَ فَإِنَّهُمْ مِنْهُمْ وَمَعَهُمْ فَإِذَا جِرَاحُهُمْ قَدْ أَشْبَهَتْ جِرَاحَهُمْ

English Translation
Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ — meaning Ibn Yazīd al-Ḥaḍramī — and Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Rabbihi narrated to us, they said: Baqiyyah narrated to us saying: Baḥīr ibn Saʿd narrated to me, from Khālid ibn Maʿdān, from Ibn Abī Bilāl, from al-ʿIrbāḍ ibn Sāriyah رضي الله عنه, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The martyrs and those who die on their beds will dispute before our Lord عز وجل regarding those who die from plague. The martyrs will say: 'Our brothers were killed as we were killed.' And those who died on their beds will say: 'Our brothers died on their beds as we died on our beds.' The Lord عز وجل will say: 'Look at their wounds. If their wounds resemble the wounds of those killed [in battle], then they are of them and with them.' And their wounds will indeed resemble them."
