Chain of Narration (Isnad)

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ عُمَرَ فِي سَفَرٍ وَأَنَّهُ طَلَبَ إِلَى عُمَرَ أَنْ يُرِيَهُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَبَيْنَمَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ وَعَلَيْهِ سِتْرٌ مَسْتُورٌ مِنْ الشَّمْسِ إِذْ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ عَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ وَعَلَيْهَا رَدْعٌ مِنْ زَعْفَرَانٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَحْرَمْتُ بِعُمْرَةٍ وَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يَسْخَرُونَ مِنِّي فَكَيْ

فَ أَصْنَعُ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ فَبَيْنَا هُوَ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ أَوْمَأَ إِلَيَّ عُمَرُ بِيَدِهِ فَأَدْخَلْتُ رَأْسِي مَعَهُمْ فِي السِّتْرِ فَإِذَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُحْمَرٌّ وَجْنَتَاهُ لَهُ غَطِيطٌ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنْ الْعُمْرَةِ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ انْزِعْ جُبَّتَكَ هَذِهِ عَنْكَ وَمَا كُنْتَ صَانِعًا فِي حَجِّكَ إِذَا أَحْرَمْتَ فَاصْنَعْهُ فِي عُمْرَتِكَ

English Translation

Yaʿlā ibn Umayyah رضي الله عنه narrated that he was with ʿUmar on a journey, and he asked ʿUmar to show him the Prophet ﷺ when revelation descended upon him. While the Prophet ﷺ was on a journey, shaded by a covering from the sun, a man came to him wearing a jubbah with traces of saffron on it. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I entered iḥrām for ʿumrah, and the people are mocking me. What should I do?" the Prophet ﷺ was silent and did not answer him. Then ʿUmar gestured to me with his hand, and I put my head with them under the covering. the Prophet ﷺ was red-cheeked with a wheezing sound for a time. Then it was lifted from him, and he sat up and said: "Where is the one who asked about ʿumrah?" The man stood up, and he said: "Remove this jubbah of yours, and whatever you would do in your ḥajj when you enter iḥrām, do it in your ʿumrah."
