English Translation

Hushaym narrated to us: Abū Bishr informed us, from Bashīr ibn Thābit, from Ḥabīb ibn Sālim, from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr رضي الله عنه who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us while the sun was eclipsed, and he prayed until the eclipse cleared. Then he said: 'Indeed, the people of the Jāhiliyyah used to say that the sun and moon do not eclipse except for the death of a great person. Rather, the sun and moon are two signs among the signs of Allah عز وجل; when one of them eclipses — or: when something happens to one of them — pray the best prayer you have ever prayed until it clears.'
