حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو وَكِيعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْأَعْوَادِ أَوْ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ مَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْقَلِيلَ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْكَثِيرَ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ النَّا
سَ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ اللَّهَ وَالتَّحَدُّثُ بِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ شُكْرٌ وَتَرْكُهَا كُفْرٌ وَالْجَمَاعَةُ رَحْمَةٌ وَالْفُرْقَةُ عَذَابٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيُّ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّوَادِ الْأَعْظَمِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مَا السَّوَادُ الْأَعْظَمُ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ فِي سُورَةِ النُّورِ { فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْهِ مَا حُمِّلَ وَعَلَيْكُمْ مَا حُمِّلْتُمْ }

English Translation
ʿAbdullāh narrated to us: Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbdillāh, mawlā of Banū Hāshim, narrated to us: Abū Wakīʿ narrated to us, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr رضي الله عنه who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said upon these planks — or upon this minbar: 'Whoever does not give thanks for the little will not give thanks for the much. Whoever does not give thanks to the people does not give thanks to Allah. Speaking of the blessings of Allah is gratitude, and leaving it is ingratitude. The community is mercy and division is punishment.' Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī said: 'Hold to the greater body.' A man said: What is the greater body? Abū Umāmah said: This verse in Sūrat al-Nūr: {If they turn away, then upon him is only what he has been charged with, and upon you is what you have been charged with.}
