حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَجْلَحُ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْخَلِيلِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ أُتِيَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ نَفَر
ٍ إِذْ كَانَ بِالْيَمَنِ اشْتَرَكُوا فِي وَلَدٍ فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَضَمِنَ الَّذِي أَصَابَتْهُ الْقُرْعَةُ ثُلُثَيْ الدِّيَةِ وَجَعَلَ الْوَلَدَ لَهُ قَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِقَضَاءِ عَلِيٍّ فَضَحِكَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ

English Translation
Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that ʿAlī رضي الله عنه was brought three men in Yemen who had shared in producing a child. He drew lots among them and assigned the child to the one whose lot was drawn, and charged him two-thirds of the blood money. Zayd ibn Arqam said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him of ʿAlī's judgment, and he laughed until his molars showed.
