قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو وَكِيعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْأَعْوَادِ أَوْ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ مَنْ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْقَلِيلَ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ الْكَثِيرَ وَمَنْ لَم
ْ يَشْكُرْ النَّاسَ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَالتَّحَدُّثُ بِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ شُكْرٌ وَتَرْكُهَا كُفْرٌ وَالْجَمَاعَةُ رَحْمَةٌ وَالْفُرْقَةُ عَذَابٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيُّ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّوَادِ الْأَعْظَمِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مَا السَّوَادُ الْأَعْظَمُ فَنَادَى أَبُو أُمَامَةَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ الَّتِي فِي سُورَةِ النُّورِ { فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْهِ مَا حُمِّلَ وَعَلَيْكُمْ مَا حُمِّلْتُمْ }

English Translation
Al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr narrated: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said upon these wooden planks — or upon this minbar: 'Whoever is not grateful for the little will not be grateful for the much. And whoever does not thank people does not thank Allah عز وجل. Speaking of the blessings of Allah is gratitude, and ignoring them is ingratitude. The community is a mercy and division is a punishment.' He said: Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī said: 'Adhere to the greater body.' A man said: 'What is the greater body?' He said: 'Upon you is the verse of ʿAlī — meaning ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib رضي الله عنه.'
