English Translation
Sufyān narrated to us, from Ibrāhīm ibn Maysarah, from ʿAmr ibn al-Sharīd, from his father — in shāʾ Allāh — or Yaʿqūb ibn ʿĀṣim, meaning from al-Sharīd, as my father narrated it to us thus. He said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seated me behind him and said: "Do you have any of the poetry of Umayyah with you?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Recite to me." So I recited to him a verse, and he kept saying: "More!" until I had recited to him one hundred verses.'
