حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَن ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ حِطَّانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ عَن أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِرَجُلٍ هَلُمَّ ف
َلْنَجْعَلْ يَوْمَنَا هَذَا لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَوَاللَّهِ لَكَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَاهِدٌ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ فَخَطَبَ فَقَالَ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ هَلُمَّ فَلَنَجْعَلْ يَوْمَنَا هَذَا لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَمَا زَالَ يَقُولُهَا حَتَّى تَمَنَّيْتُ أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ سَاخَتْ بِي

English Translation
Yazīd narrated to us, he said: Ḥammād ibn Salamah informed us, from Thābit al-Bunānī who said: One who heard Ḥiṭṭān ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to me, from Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī who said: I said to a man: Come, let us devote this day of ours to Allah عز وجل. By Allah, it was as if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was present that day, and he gave a sermon. He said: Among them are those who say: Come, let us devote this day of ours to Allah عز وجل. He kept saying this until I wished the earth would swallow me up.
