English Translation
Abu Mu'awiyah narrated from al-A'mash, from Muslim al-Batin, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my mother died while she owed a month of fasting. Shall I make it up on her behalf?' He said: 'Do you see — if your mother had a debt, would you not pay it off?' She said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then the debt owed to Allah (عز وجل) is more deserving of being fulfilled.'
