English Translation

'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Zayd, from Yusuf ibn Mihran, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: When the verse of debt was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The first to deny was Adam (عليه السلام) — or: the first to deny was Adam." Indeed, when Allah (عز وجل) created Adam, He wiped his back and brought forth from it all his offspring until the Day of Resurrection. He began presenting his descendants to him, and Adam saw among them a man who shone brilliantly. He said: "O Lord, who is this?" He said: "This is your son Dawud." He said: "O Lord, how long is his lifespan?" He said: "Sixty years." He said: "O Lord, increase his lifespan." He said: "No, unless I add to it from your lifespan." Adam's lifespan was a thousand years, so he gave forty years. Allah (عز وجل) wrote a document for this and made the angels witnesses. When Adam was on his deathbed and the angels came to take his soul, he said: "Forty years of my lifespan remain." It was said to him: "You gave them to your son Dawud." He said: "I did not do that." Then Allah (عز وجل) produced the document and the angels bore witness against him.
