English Translation
Mu'awiyah narrated to us, Za'idah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Muslim al-Batin, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my mother died while she owed a month of fasting. Shall I make it up on her behalf?" He said: "If your mother had a debt, would you pay it for her?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then the debt owed to Allah is more deserving of being paid." Sulayman said: Al-Hakam and Salamah ibn Kuhayl said — and we were all sitting when Muslim narrated this hadith — they said: We heard Mujahid mention this from Ibn 'Abbas.
