English Translation

Aswad ibn 'Amir narrated to us, he said: Isra'il narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to one of his daughters while she was in the throes of death. He took her and placed her against his chest, and she died against his chest. Umm Ayman cried out, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Do not cry.' She said: 'Do I not see you crying, O Messenger of Allah?' He ﷺ said: 'This is not crying. Rather, this is mercy, and the believer is always in a good state — his soul is drawn out from between his sides while he praises Allah عز وجل.'
