English Translation

Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Sa'id, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: Dimad al-Azdi arrived in Makkah. He used to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) from the touch of the jinn. He heard some foolish people of Makkah saying: 'Muhammad is possessed (majnun).' He said: 'Let me see this man; perhaps Allah will heal him at my hands.' He met the Prophet ﷺ, who said: 'Indeed, all praise is due to Allah. We praise Him and seek His help. Whoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whoever He misguides, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' Dimad said: 'Repeat these words to me.' the Prophet ﷺ repeated them three times, and Dimad said: 'I have heard the speech of soothsayers, sorcerers, and poets, but I have never heard words like these. They have reached the depths of the sea. Give me your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you upon Islam.' So he pledged allegiance.
