عبد الله بن مسعود
Abu Abd al-Rahman Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud ibn Ghafil al-Hudhali was among the earliest and most learned Companions. He was the sixth person to accept Islam. He served as the Prophet's ﷺ personal attendant and was so close that people thought he was part of the Prophet's household. The Prophet ﷺ said to learn the Quran from four Companions, placing Ibn Mas'ud first. He was the primary teacher of the Kufan school of Quranic recitation and jurisprudence. After the Prophet's death, he settled in Kufa where his legal methodology became the foundation of the Hanafi school (through Ibrahim al-Nakha'i, Hammad ibn Abi Sulayman, and Abu Hanifa). He died in Madinah in 32 AH.
