Abdullah ibn Abi Mulaika al-Taymi al-Ahwali al-Qurashi was a distinguished Tabi'i scholar and judge of Mecca who occupied a position of both religious authority and civic responsibility in the holy city. He served as a judge (qadi) in Mecca during the caliphate of Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr and was also appointed as a muezzin (caller to prayer) and prayer leader. His access to major companions of Mecca and Medina was exceptional: he narrated from A'ishah, Ibn Abbas, Ibn Umar, Ibn al-Zubayr, Asma' bint Abi Bakr, Umm Salama, and many others, may Allah be pleased with them. This breadth of access gave him a uniquely wide perspective on the prophetic tradition. Hadith scholars considered him highly trustworthy and praised his knowledge and precision. He narrated on a wide range of topics including the Prophet's ﷺ character, prayer, Quranic recitation, and matters of faith. His narrations appear extensively in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the Sunan collections. He died around 117 AH, leaving behind a rich legacy of transmission from the greatest scholars of the first Muslim generation.
