Shaqiq ibn Salama al-Asadi, known by his kunya Abu Wail, was a senior Tabi'i scholar and hadith narrator of Kufa. Despite not meeting the Prophet ﷺ himself, he narrated from many of the most prominent Companions including Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, Abu Musa al-Ashari, and Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with them). He lived to approximately 82 AH, a long life that allowed him to serve as a bridge between the Companion generation and many subsequent scholars. He was considered one of the most reliable and respected Tabi'i transmitters in Kufa and a major link in the isnad chains of numerous hadith. Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim relied on him extensively, and his narrations appear with great frequency in the Sahih collections. He was known for his piety and his adherence to the Sunnah. This entry is a variant listing of the narrator also recorded as Abu Wail. He passed away around 82 AH.
