Abdullah ibn Ka'b ibn Malik al-Ansari al-Sulami was a Tabi'i scholar and the son of Ka'b ibn Malik, one of the three companions who stayed behind from the Tabuk expedition and whose repentance and forgiveness by Allah were recorded in Surah al-Tawbah. Ka'b ibn Malik's story is one of the most moving narratives in the sirah, and his account of his own experience — the fifty days of social boycott, his struggle with repentance, and finally the Prophet's announcement of his forgiveness — is one of the most detailed personal narratives in the hadith literature. Abdullah narrated from his father and transmitted this famous extended narration, which is preserved in its fullest form in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim through chains that include Abdullah. He also transmitted other hadiths about prophetic conduct, prayer, and aspects of daily Sunnah. His narrations provide an important connection to his father's testimony and the prophetic practice as it was known to the Ansari families of Medina. He is considered a reliable narrator by hadith scholars.
