Uqba ibn al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who embraced Islam at the Conquest of Mecca. He was from the Quraysh tribe and narrated a relatively small number of hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ. Among the most notable narrations attributed to him is a report preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari concerning a legal case involving breastfeeding (rada'a). A woman claimed that she had suckled Uqba and a woman he wished to marry, which would make them milk-siblings and the marriage impermissible. The Prophet ﷺ, upon hearing the claim, advised caution: 'How can you marry her when it has been said?' — indicating that such claims, even unverified, should make one cautious in matters affecting family law. This narration became a reference point in discussions of the conditions and legal weight of breastfeeding claims in Islamic jurisprudence. His reports are found in the Sunan collections and cited in chapters on family law and marriage. He is considered a reliable Companion narrator for the hadiths he transmitted.
