Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab al-Qurashi al-Adawi, may Allah be pleased with him, was the son of the second caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab and one of the most prolific and meticulous narrators of hadith among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. He narrated over 2,600 hadiths recorded in all major collections, making him the fourth-highest narrator overall. He was renowned for an almost unparalleled scrupulousness in following the Prophet's ﷺ Sunnah in every detail of life — retracing the Prophet's ﷺ footsteps on his journeys, making du'a at every spot where the Prophet ﷺ had made du'a, and following every established practice with meticulous precision. He refused to accept positions of authority throughout his life, despite being offered the caliphate on more than one occasion. He lived to approximately 84 years and was the leading religious authority in Medina for decades, with Tabi'in traveling from across the Islamic world to learn from him. His narrations cover every domain of Islamic practice, and his answers to legal questions were recorded and transmitted by his students. He passed away around 73–74 AH in Mecca. His role in preserving and transmitting the Sunnah is immeasurable.
