Zaid ibn Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from the Juhaina tribe who participated in the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah and pledged allegiance under the tree. He settled in Medina and later in Kufa and narrated approximately eighty-one hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ. He is particularly well known for the jointly narrated hadith (with Abu Huraira) on the rules of found property (luqata) and the prescribed punishments for fornication — a narration of foundational importance in Islamic criminal and property law. He also narrated the famous hadith on how the Prophet ﷺ led the morning prayer after a night of rain, then turned to the congregation and asked who among them knew what their Lord had said that night — referring to Allah's statement that some had given thanks and some had committed kufr through attributing the rain to the stars rather than to Allah. His narrations are included in all six major hadith collections. He passed away around 68 AH.
