Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Abi Talib al-Hashimi, may Allah be pleased with him, was the son of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, the Prophet's cousin who was martyred at the Battle of Mu'tah in 8 AH. After his father's martyrdom, Abdullah and his brothers were taken into the care of the Prophet ﷺ himself, who personally supervised their upbringing. The Prophet ﷺ prayed for blessings upon Abdullah and reportedly remarked that he resembled him in character. He had direct personal experience of the Prophet ﷺ from childhood and narrated hadiths from him. He was also known for transmitting from his mother Asma' bint Umays and other senior companions. He was renowned in the Islamic world for his extraordinary generosity, a quality he was said to have inherited from his father Ja'far, who was himself nicknamed 'Abu al-Masakin' (father of the poor) for his charity. He lived in Medina and was a respected figure among both the Hashimites and the wider community. His narrations appear in Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, and other major collections.
