عبد الله بن محمد
Abdullah ibn Muhammad was the second son of Prophet Muhammad and Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. He was given two honorary names: al-Tayyib (the Pure One) and al-Tahir (the Purified), both of which are sometimes treated as separate children in older accounts, though the majority of scholars hold they refer to the same person. He was born in Makkah before the hijra and died in infancy, like his elder brother al-Qasim. The deaths of the Prophet's sons caused his enemies — particularly al-As ibn Wa'il — to taunt him as 'abtar' (cut off, without male legacy). This mockery was addressed directly by Allah in Surah al-Kawthar (108): 'Indeed, your enemy is the one who is cut off.' The Prophet ﷺ is the father of the entire ummah, and it is his detractors whose names have faded while his name is proclaimed in every corner of the earth. Abdullah is buried in Makkah.
