Jabir ibn Samurah al-Amiri (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ who grew up in his presence and had the privilege of praying behind him regularly. He was the son of Samurah ibn Jundab (RA) and nephew of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, one of the ten promised Paradise. His narrations are particularly valued for their descriptive precision about the Prophet ﷺ — his appearance, his mannerisms, the texture of his hair, his seated posture, and the lightness of his footstep. He is specifically known for reporting that the Prophet's sermon on Fridays was delivered while standing, with a concise style that was neither excessively long nor too brief, and that the Prophet ﷺ read Quranic verses during it. He also narrated the hadith about twelve caliphs from Quraysh, which has been the subject of extensive scholarly commentary. He settled in Kufa and was regarded as a trusted elder Companion there. He passed away around 74 AH. His narrations appear in Sahih Muslim and the major Sunan collections.
