Abu Salama ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf was a leading Tabi'i scholar of Medina and is counted among the Seven Jurists of Medina (al-fuqaha al-sab'a). He was the son of the companion Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf (RA) — one of the ten companions promised Paradise — which gave him access to some of the most authoritative companions from his earliest years. He narrated extensively from Aisha (RA), Abu Huraira (RA), and other senior companions. His relationship with Abu Huraira was particularly close and productive, and he transmitted a large portion of Abu Huraira's narrations. He was regarded by hadith critics as fully trustworthy and was one of the most important transmitters in the Medinan scholarly tradition. Imam al-Zuhri narrated from him extensively. He passed away around 94 AH.
