Abu Wail Shaqiq ibn Salama al-Asadi was a leading Tabi'i scholar from Kufa who, despite not meeting the Prophet ﷺ directly, became one of the most significant transmitters between the companion generation and the Tabi'in. He narrated from an exceptionally wide circle of companions including Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Hudhaifa ibn al-Yaman, Abu Musa al-Ashari, and Ammar ibn Yasir. He was among the most reliable and trusted narrators in Kufa and was the teacher of later leading scholars including al-Amash. He was known for his long life — reportedly reaching approximately 82 AH or later — his deep asceticism, and his consistent reliability as a narrator. Hadith critics considered him fully trustworthy (thiqah). His narrations appear extensively in all six major hadith collections, and he serves as an essential bridge between the companions of the Prophet ﷺ and the generation that came after them.
