AbuBarzah al-Aslami, may Allah be pleased with him, whose full name was Nadlah ibn Ubayd al-Aslami, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the Aslam tribe. He participated in several of the Prophet's ﷺ military campaigns and was among those who accompanied the Prophet ﷺ in the expedition to al-Hudaybiyyah. He was known for his longevity and his continued transmission of hadith to the Tabi'in long after many of his contemporaries had passed. He narrated numerous hadiths on important topics including the times of the five daily prayers, with a particularly famous narration detailing the Prophet's ﷺ practice of praying the Fajr when it was dark enough that one could not recognize their neighbor, delaying the 'Asr prayer until late in the afternoon, and the Isha after a third of the night. This narration is a primary reference in all madhabs for the preferred and permissible times of the daily prayers. He also transmitted reports about personal conduct, piety, and the etiquette of the tongue. He settled in Basra and later moved east, with some accounts placing him in Khorasan. His narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all major Sunan collections.
