Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ who embraced Islam before the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, around 5–6 AH. His full name was al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah ibn Abi Amir al-Thaqafi, and he was from the tribe of Thaqif in Ta'if. He was known for his extraordinary intelligence, sharp diplomatic instincts, and skill in negotiation, earning him the nickname al-Mughirah al-Dahiya (the cunning one). He participated in major military campaigns and served as governor of Basra under Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab and later of Kufa under Uthman and Muawiya. He narrated approximately 136 hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on topics including the wiping over leather socks during ablution, the prayers at the graveyard, and various aspects of the Prophet's worship and conduct. A famous narration preserved in Bukhari and Muslim describes in detail the Prophet's habit of wiping over his footwear during wudu, which became a foundational reference in Islamic jurisprudence. He passed away in Kufa around 50 AH. This entry is a variant spelling of the narrator also listed as Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba.
