الحسن بن علي
al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (3–50 AH) was the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the first son of Ali ibn Abi Talib and Fatimah al-Zahra. He is revered as one of the leaders of the youth of Paradise, as the Prophet ﷺ reportedly said. After the assassination of his father Ali in 40 AH, al-Hasan was acclaimed as caliph by the Kufans. However, to prevent further Muslim bloodshed, he negotiated an agreement with Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan and abdicated the caliphate after approximately six months — an act that fulfilled the Prophet's prophecy that al-Hasan would bring reconciliation between two large groups of Muslims. He retired to Madinah where he lived until his death.
