Abdullah ibn Buhaina al-Asdi (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ who was the stepson of the Companion Malik ibn al-Qushayb. He is particularly known for a narration preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim describing how the Prophet ﷺ, having prayed only two units of a four-unit prayer before sitting in the final tashahhud position, stood up to complete the remaining two units and then performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw) at the end of the prayer. This narration is one of the most-cited references in Islamic jurisprudence for the rules governing the prostration of forgetfulness when a prayer element is inadvertently omitted or performed out of order. He narrated hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on prayer and other aspects of Islamic worship. His reports are found in the major hadith collections and he is considered a reliable Companion narrator.
