al-Shinqiti

Muhammad al-Amin ibn Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Shinqiti was born in Mauritania (Shinqit, West Africa) and became one of the greatest Islamic scholars of the 20th century. He settled in Saudi Arabia and taught at the Islamic University of Madinah. His masterwork Adwa' al-Bayan fi Idah al-Quran bil-Quran (Lights of Explanation: Clarifying the Quran by the Quran) is a 10-volume tafsir that follows the methodology of the Salaf, interpreting the Quran primarily through the Quran itself and authentic Sunnah. He also wrote Manc' Jawaz al-Majaz (on figures of speech in the Quran). He died in Mecca in 1393 AH.
