al-Zurqani (Maliki)

Abd al-Baqi ibn Yusuf al-Zurqani (1020–1099 AH / 1611–1688 CE) was a major Egyptian Maliki scholar of the 11th century AH. He wrote an important commentary on Mukhtasar Khalil and also a widely-used commentary on Muwatta of Imam Malik called Sharh al-Zurqani ala al-Muwatta. Both are standard references in the Maliki school. His commentary on the Muwatta is particularly valued for its clear explanations and engagement with the different narrations and their legal implications.
