Amir ibn Rabi'ah al-Anzi al-Adawi, may Allah be pleased with him, was one of the earliest companions to embrace Islam, accepting the faith before the Muslims entered Dar al-Arqam — a mark of the very earliest conversion. He participated in both the Hijra to Abyssinia and the Hijra to Medina, making him among the most distinguished emigrants in Islamic history. His father-in-law Layla bint Abi Hathma was also among the early emigrants. He participated in the Battle of Badr and other major battles alongside the Prophet ﷺ. He narrated hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on topics including the funeral prayer (salat al-janaza), greeting the deceased when passing by graves, and other aspects of Islamic ritual life. His reports on the funeral prayer — including the instruction to stand when a funeral passes by — are preserved in the six major hadith collections. He is regarded as a highly reliable narrator, and his early conversion combined with his participation in the foundational events of Islam gave his narrations particular authority among later scholars.
