Amr ibn Taghlib al-Numayri, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the Banu Numair tribe who settled in Basra after the Islamic conquests. He narrated a small number of hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ, the most famous of which concerns the Prophet's ﷺ approach to distributing wealth: when the Prophet ﷺ distributed gifts to some people and not others, a man came to him and complained about those who had been passed over. The Prophet ﷺ replied with a profound statement about his method of giving — that he gave to some people to satisfy their hearts for the sake of Islam, while he left others to what Allah had placed in their hearts of goodness and contentment. He then described Amr ibn Taghlib as being among those whom he left, saying: 'One red camel is dearer to me than everything that person has.' This narration, preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari, illustrates the Prophet's wisdom in managing the hearts of new Muslims while trusting those whose faith was firm. Amr was settled in Basra and is considered a reliable companion narrator.
