Abbad ibn Tamim al-Ansari al-Mazini was a Tabi'i narrator who transmitted hadiths from his uncle Abdullah ibn Zayd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) — the Companion best known for his narration about the vision of the adhan. Abbad served as the primary transmitter of his uncle's narrations and is the principal source through whom Abdullah ibn Zayd's accounts reached the major hadith collections. His narration from his uncle about the adhan and the method of the istisqa (prayer for rain) — specifically that the Prophet ﷺ went out to an open area, reversed his upper garment, turned it around as a symbol of hoping conditions would turn around, and prayed — is among the most foundational reports for the rulings on both the adhan and the istisqa prayer. His narrations are preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the Sunan collections. He is regarded as a reliable Tabi'i transmitter by the scholars of hadith criticism.
