Ibn Abbas (RA) — this entry refers to Abdullah ibn Abbas in the Bulugh al-Maram collection. Abdullah ibn Abbas was the cousin of the Prophet ﷺ, born approximately three years before the Hijra, and is the foremost authority on Quranic exegesis in Islamic history. The Prophet ﷺ prayed specifically for him to receive wisdom and deep understanding of the Quran. His full biography is documented in entry 5 above. The Prophet's prayer was unmistakably answered: Ibn Abbas became the undisputed authority on Quranic interpretation among all the companions, and his narrations and explanations remained the primary source of classical tafsir for over a millennium. His narrations in Bulugh al-Maram cover a wide range of legal rulings drawn from his vast knowledge of the Sunnah. He passed away around 68 AH in Ta'if.
