ابن الجزري
Shams al-Din Abu al-Khayr Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Jazari al-Dimashqi al-Misri was the foremost authority on Quranic recitation (qira'at) of the post-classical period. He received chains of transmission for all seven (and ten) canonical recitations. His works al-Nashr fi al-Qira'at al-'Ashr and its summary al-Tayyibah define the ten canonical recitations and their rules. He also wrote al-Durrah al-Mudiyyah (on the three additional recitations). He traveled extensively to teach — from Damascus to Egypt to Anatolia to Persia and back. He died in Shiraz in 833 AH. Every present-day Quran teacher traces their chain of recitation through him.
