ابن رشد الجد
Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Rushd al-Qurtubi (450–520 AH), known as Ibn Rushd al-Jadd (the grandfather) to distinguish him from his famous philosopher grandson, was the leading Maliki jurist of al-Andalus of his time. He served as the chief qadi (judge) of Cordoba and as the prayer leader of its Great Mosque. His major work al-Bayan wa-al-Tahsil is a monumental 20-volume collection of legal questions and responses, and his Muqaddimat is an important introduction to Maliki jurisprudence. He is considered one of the greatest Maliki scholars of Andalus.
