Ubayy ibn Ka'b ibn Qays al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was the pre-eminent Quranic reciter among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ told him that Allah had commanded the Quran be recited to Ubayy by name — an honor granted to no other Companion in the same way. He was one of the principal scribes of the Quranic revelation during the Prophet's lifetime and an acknowledged authority on Quranic text, recitation, and interpretation. He served as the imam of Tarawih prayer for the congregation in Medina during the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab, and his approach to the communal Tarawih helped establish this prayer as a regular Ramadan practice. He narrated hadiths on the Quran, prayer, the description of the Day of Judgment, and many other topics. He was also known as master of the Companions in Quranic matters. He passed away around 19–32 AH. This is a variant listing of the Companion also recorded as Ubayy ibn Ka'b.
