Jabir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the son of Samurah ibn Jundab and nephew of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, one of the ten promised Paradise. He grew up in close proximity to the Prophet ﷺ and directly witnessed his conduct, prayer, and sermons. He narrated approximately one hundred and forty hadiths covering a wide range of topics, most notably detailed descriptions of the Prophet's physical appearance — his build, his hair, his face, and his manner of walking. He is particularly known for a narration describing the Prophet's Friday sermon, delivered while standing at the pulpit, with the congregation seated around him — a description foundational to the practice of the khutba. He also narrated accounts of the Last Hour, including the Prophet's statement about twelve caliphs from Quraysh. He settled in Kufa where he was regarded as a respected elder Companion and reliable transmitter. He passed away around 74 AH. His narrations appear in Sahih Muslim, the Sunan of Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, and al-Nasa'i.
