Jubayr ibn Mut'im ibn Adi al-Nawfali al-Qurashi (RA) was from the Quraysh of Mecca and initially was among those who opposed Islam. He came to Medina after the Battle of Badr to ransom prisoners before his formal conversion to Islam. Some accounts indicate it was during this very visit that he heard the Prophet ﷺ reciting Surah al-Tur, and his heart was moved by the Quran. He embraced Islam and became a companion of distinction. He was particularly renowned for his knowledge of Arab genealogy — a science critical for legal, social, and diplomatic purposes in early Islamic society — and was regarded as one of the greatest experts in this field among all the companions. He narrated approximately 60 hadiths. He was also considered an authority in the distribution of the Prophet's family share (khumus) in spoils of war. He passed away around 57–59 AH in Medina.
