Amra bint Abd al-Rahman al-Ansariyyah was one of the most distinguished female scholars of the Tabi'in generation and the foremost transmitter of the hadith corpus of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). She was raised in the household of Aisha, serving and learning from her for years, and absorbed an extraordinary volume of prophetic knowledge from that unique proximity. The Caliph Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz โ himself known for his deep commitment to the Sunnah โ designated her as the primary authority on Aisha's narrations, instructing scholars to write down her knowledge before it was lost. Imam al-Zuhri is reported to have acknowledged that she was a vessel of knowledge and that he came to her and found in her a sea of learning. She narrated hadiths on the Prophet's prayer, fasting, purification, and the conduct of the Prophet's household, and was particularly valued for hadiths pertaining to women's religious practice. Her reports appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all the major Sunan works. She passed away in Medina around 98โ106 AH.
