Umm Hani bint Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with her, was the daughter of Abu Talib — the Prophet's uncle who raised him — and thus a first cousin of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. She was the sister of Ali ibn Abi Talib and grew up in the closest proximity to the Prophet from his earliest years. She is particularly associated with the narration of the Isra wal-Mi'raj — the Night Journey and Ascension — as several accounts indicate that the Prophet ﷺ was in her home or in the vicinity of her house in Mecca on the night of that miraculous event. She narrated hadiths about the Night Journey, the morning prayer (Duha/Fajr), and the Prophet's daily conduct. She is also known for a narration about the Prophet offering a prayer of eight units (rak'at) on the day of the conquest of Mecca. Her narrations on the Duha prayer are among the primary sources for the ruling on this voluntary prayer. Her reports appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the four Sunan collections.
