Malik ibn Sasaa' al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the Ansar of Medina. He holds a singular distinction in the hadith literature: he is one of the primary narrators of the detailed and comprehensive account of the Night Journey and Ascension (al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj). His narration of this miraculous event — the Prophet's ﷺ journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and ascent through the seven heavens — is one of the most complete and detailed accounts preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. This narration includes the description of the heavenly beings encountered at each level, the conversations with the prophets, the scenes of Paradise and Hell, and the encounter with Allah from which the five daily prayers were received as a gift to the Muslim community. The narration is of foundational theological and spiritual importance in Islam. Malik ibn Sasaa' transmitted this account with precision, and his narration became the textual basis for Islamic belief about this pivotal event. He is regarded as a reliable companion narrator whose transmission of the Isra' narration is among the most significant contributions of any narrator.
