Abu Wa'il Shaqiq ibn Salama al-Asadi was a prominent Tabi'i scholar from Kufa who is considered one of the most reliable and prolific transmitters of the Kufan scholarly tradition. He lived approximately until 82 AH. Though he did not personally meet the Prophet ﷺ, he narrated from a distinguished array of companions including Abdullah ibn Masud, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, and Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with them all. He was particularly close to Ibn Masud and is one of the primary transmitters of his narrations and legal opinions. Hadith scholars praised him without reservation: Yahya ibn Maʿin said he was thiqah, and Ahmad ibn Hanbal regarded him highly. He was known for his strict piety and his avoidance of rulers. His narrations cover prayer, fasting, the conduct of the companions, eschatology, and Islamic jurisprudence. They appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all four Sunan collections. He is one of the most frequently cited Tabi'i narrators in all of classical hadith literature. This is a variant entry for the same narrator listed at index 252.
