Mu'adh ibn Anas al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the Juhainah tribe of Arabia. After the Islamic conquests, he settled in Egypt, where he became one of the companions responsible for transmitting prophetic knowledge to the Muslims of that region. He narrated several hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ covering matters of prayer, supplication after meals, and good manners in daily life. Among his narrations is a report about the supplication to be recited after completing a meal, which is cited in books of etiquette and the Sunan. He also transmitted reports on the virtue of patience and other ethical teachings of the Prophet ﷺ. His narrations are preserved primarily in the Sunan of Abu Dawud and are cited in classical fiqh works dealing with the Sunnahs of eating and supplication. He is counted among the Egyptian companions whose presence helped establish the religious foundations of the Muslim community in that country in the early decades of Islam.
