Salim Abu al-Nadr was a reliable Tabi'i narrator and freed slave of Umar ibn Ubaydullah al-Taymi in Medina. He is principally known for his role in a significant narration preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari: he narrated the letter sent by Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa, a companion of the Prophet ﷺ, to Umar ibn Ubaydullah, addressing the ruling about fighting against those who had broken a treaty during a sacred month. He also transmitted hadiths from companions and senior Tabi'in, and his narrations appear in both Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. Among his most prominent narrations is the famous hadith about the prohibition of al-watt al-muharram (sexual relations with a pregnant woman taken captive in war) reported through the chain of Salim from his father Abu al-Nadr from Abu Said al-Khudri. Hadith scholars classified him as thiqah (trustworthy), and Imam Malik narrated from him. His narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the Muwatta of Imam Malik, and he is considered a reliable link in several important chains of transmission.
