المختار الكنتي
Sidi al-Mukhtar ibn Ahmad al-Kunti (1729-1811 CE / 1142-1226H) was a Maliki scholar, poet, and Sufi leader of the Kunta tribe in the western Sahara. Through his extensive scholarly network — he corresponded with rulers and scholars from Timbuktu to Morocco — he exercised enormous religious and political influence across the Sahara-Sahel region for decades. His works include poetry, fiqh, and Sufi devotional literature. He emphasized the Qadiriyya Sufi order and was a stabilizing force among nomadic tribes during a period of significant conflict.
