Warrad was the secretary and freed slave of al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah, the companion of the Prophet ﷺ, may Allah be pleased with him. He served as al-Mughirah's personal scribe and transmitted hadiths on his master's behalf, including dictating letters and messages containing prophetic narrations. He is best known for transmitting from al-Mughirah the famous supplication recited after the obligatory prayer — 'La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir...' — which al-Mughirah reported that the Prophet ﷺ used to say after completing each prayer. Hadith scholars regarded Warrad as a reliable transmitter. Though his corpus of narrations is limited, the hadiths he preserved are considered authentic and are cited in chapters on post-prayer supplications in Islamic jurisprudence. His narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. He represents a category of narrator who, through faithful service to a companion, became an important conduit for the preservation of prophetic tradition.
