بيري ريس
Ahmad Muhiddin Piri ibn Haji Mehmed, known as Piri Reis (c. 1465-1554 CE / 876-961H), was an Ottoman admiral and cartographer. He is best known for his Bahriye (Book of Navigation), a comprehensive guide to the Mediterranean with detailed coastal charts, and for his 1513 world map (now in the Topkapi Museum), which is notable for appearing to show South America and possibly Antarctica with unusual accuracy for its era. He compiled his maps from over 20 Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese sources, including charts reportedly from Christopher Columbus's expedition. He served as Admiral of the Indian Ocean Fleet but was executed for abandoning the siege of Hormuz.
