Rafi ibn Khadij al-Ansari (RA) was from the Ansar of Medina, from the tribe of Aws. He was one of the companions who was initially turned away from the Battle of Badr for being too young, but he participated in subsequent campaigns including Uhud and Khandaq. He narrated approximately 78 hadiths. He is most well known for his narrations on agricultural contracts (muzara'a and mukhabara) — the Prophet ﷺ forbade certain share-cropping arrangements that might lead to injustice, and Rafi's narrations on this topic are the primary source for the relevant legal rulings in Islamic jurisprudence. He also narrated hadiths on hunting and permissible slaughter. He settled in Medina after the Prophet's death and was a respected narrator there. He passed away around 73–74 AH.
